Ausangate trek 4days / 3nights

Inka Sun Travel - Peru Ausangate

This short but still wonderful and demanding trek through the rugged mountains of the Vilcanota cordillera with its white peaks so close you can almost touch them and the Andean spectacular landscapes. Still considered an “off the beaten path” trail far from the crowded traditional commercial ones will leave in you an unforgettable experience keeping a sense of achievement.

This is the one for trekkers in search for something different, hard and special.

Level: Strenuous Minimum: 5 participants.

Day 1: Cusco - Pitumarca - Chilca - Pacchanta

Inka Sun Travel - Travel in AusangatePick up from your hotel at 07:00am. Transfer in private transportation heading south to the Andean village of Pitumarca on the road to Sicuani. Enroute we will appreciate the Huacachina lagoon in Urcos and a beautiful Andean landscape. Once in the agricultural community of Pitumarca, we’ll be able to appreciate the traditional customs of the locals. Right after we’ll be heading to Chilca (3870 m.a.s.l.) a typical Andean community in which the most important activity is the raising of Alpaca, Huanaco, Llama, Vicuña and lamb herds. In this place we will have our lunch. After lunch and a short rest we’ll continue with the hike to Pacchapata arriving at 03:30pm (aprox.), our campsite for the night, we’ll have snacks and dinner at night.

Day 2: Pacchapata - Qomercocha lagoon

Inka Sun Travel - Tours in CuscoWake up time early in the morning (05:30am.), Coca tea will be served at your tent. After breakfast we start the day with a nice hike towards the Qomercocha lagoon five hours later we will be climbing the first mountain pass (5000 m.a.s.l.), lunch will be served there (depending on the group evolution, will have our lunch on top of the pass or on the other side), After lunch and a short rest we’ll descend with the Ticllacocha lagoon on site.

At noon we’ll climb the Jampa pass (5800 m.a.s.l.), descending on the other side toward our campsite at Qomercocha lagoon around 04:30pm., camp for the night. Dinner.

Day 3: Qomercocha lagoon - Pacchanta

AusangateEarly morning at around 05:30am. Coca tea will be served at your tent. After breakfast we start the hike downhill through the Pacchanta valley where we will have the opportunity to see herds of Alpacas, Llamas and Vicuñas mixed with lambs heading to the Pacchanta village (4100 m.a.s.l.), at around 02:00pm. (aprox.), in Pacchanta village we can enjoy a nice hot bath in the thermal water pool and overwhelming view of the Ausangate white peak. Lunch. Camp for the night. Dinner.

Day 4: Pacchanta - Cusco

At 07:00am. Coca tea served at your tent. After breakfast we continue with the hike for around three and a half hours arriving at the community of Tinki, where our transportation will pick us up at 02:00pm. We will have lunch at Tinki or we can stop in a restaurant on the way to Cusco.

Included:

Guide, round trip private transportation Cusco/Chilca – Tinki/Cusco, All meals except breakfast first day and dinner on day 4, Tents, Matresses, Cook, assistant cook, pack horses to carry camping equipment and your extra bags (nothing heavier than 20 Kilos),

Extra horses are available upon request (US$20.00 per day).

What to bring:

Sleeping bag (-5ºC) available for rent upon previous request.

Warm but light clothing, change of clothes for the whole trek, rain coat or poncho, well fitted trekking boots, camera and extra batteries, hat or cap, sunglasses, sunscreen, flashlight and extra batteries, small towel, swimsuit, snacks, extra money (soles, in small bills and coins for tipping purposes), refillable water bottle or canteen, personal toiletry, sterilizing water tablets, gloves, photocopy of your passport.

Not Included:

Tips for the guide, cook, helpers, breakfast first day, dinner 4th day.

Note: We strongly recommend you travel light, 8kgs.max. (17lbs.) since you will carry your personal items for the day, unless you are in extremely good physical condition, highest altitude reached 5800mts. (19140ft.)
