Huarocondo Cachicata to Machupicchu - Inca Trail trek 5dAYS / 4nights

Itinerary:

This route is a short one through the southern mountains of Ollantaytambo; it will take us across an impressive variety of landscapes and ecological areas over a high pass with all the principle Cusco痴 white peaks in view. We will climb to a pristine cascade and we値l camp near the archaeological Inca complex through a not to visited path headed to the Chancachucu pass (4400m.a.s.l.), from here we値l walk a path to an open mountain grassy field to arrive to our second campsite. The last day will offer two alternative routes, while we pass through an Inca water channel and descend through dazzling panoramic views of the Camicancha valley and Urubamba for worshiping the Apus (gods) called Intipunko, Choquetacarpo the well preserved elite residential site and the astonishing stone blocks abandoned in the Inca quarry of Cachicata.

Day 1: Cusco - Killarumiyuc - Huarocondo - Chillipawa

Inka Sun Travel - CuscoAfter been collected from your hotel we will head towards the Pampa Anta appreciating a very beautiful landscape with picturesque and historical villages in about an hour we’ll arrive to Killarumiyuc archaeological center, Inca calendar witness of the great agricultural development in the Inca period, then we will continue towards the agricultural experimental center of the Incas and current platforms that are still intact up to these days, then we’ll continue to the village of Huarocondo known as the land of the suckling pig (lechon in spanish), which is cooked in the oven or roasted in the grill, is a typical dish of this area, where we’ll also visit the colonial church with an architectural and artistic beauty, also we’ll visit the quarries of Sacsayhuaman where we can find even the descendants of the Inca architects sculpting and embellishing the stones to the present day.

Then we’ll continue to the valley for 25 minutes to the head of the trail were we’ll meet our support personnel and mule driver. From this place we’ll begin our journey ascending gradually through the mountain’s ridge appreciating the landscape with its valleys, mountains, archaeological centers around the mountains, and the impressive Inca city of Wata guardian of the Pomatales valley, after a visit to this archaeological site we’ll keep hiking for 2 to 3 hours towards Chillipawa settlement where we will spend the night, we’ll have the opportunity to interact and take part in the daily life of the villagers.

Day 2: Chillipawa - Accoccasa - Chancachuco

Inka Sun Travel - PeruAfter breakfast we値l hike to Accoccasa finding in our way some Andean villages that even now keep Incas customs, in the agriculture, religion, music and language, once arriving to the pass, quite a challenge, will delight our eyes with a magnificent view of the Andean landscape with its cold and dry air with a sight of the most important mountains of this region as the Veronica, Chicon, Salkantay Ausangate and Huayanay that値l give us a great idea of how the Andes mountain chain was formed, then we will observe the Andean camels like Llamas and Alpacas embellishing the landscape like in the Incas time, one more hour of descend we will arrive to our campsite.

Day 3: Chancachuco - Cañon de Punku - Punku - Cachicata

After sharing the night with the settlers of Chancachuco we will continue with our trek, observing the 11kms. (6.8 miles) of Inca water channels which will show us the advance that the Inca architects had in hydraulic engineering as we descend we will penetrate into the impressive Punku Punku canyon, that is used as the entrance gate of the Andes through the valley aware of a change of landscape with abundant vegetation, flora and fauna with a semi tropical climate. Then we will leave the small valley to continue through the mountain ridge with views of the valley, snow-capped mountains, rivers and wild life until we arrive to Intiwatana temple located in the highest point of this area that permitted the Incas to make astronomic observations related to the seasons, necessary to plan the agricultural year’s production.

Then we reach Cachiccata quarry where the Incas extracted stones to build the cities, especially Ollantaytambo. Cachiccata was an Inca city inhabited by architects and hundreds of workers who were displaced from different regions of the empire, is possible to find buildings destined for administration, housing, terraces, funeral chambers, channels of irrigation, with streets and squares very well planed.

Day 4: Cachicata - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes

After breakfast we will visit the village and archeological site of Ollantaytambo. In the afternoon the group will board the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes and spend the night in a comfortable hostel.

Day 5: Aguas Calientes - Machupicchu - Cusco

After an early breakfast in the hostel, we'll board a bus to MACHUPICCHU to reach the sunrise; we register and start our 3 hour guided visit. After enjoying this tour, we will return to Aguas Calientes to our board our train back to Cusco.
