City Tour (Half day)
Cusco, the world’s navel of America’s archaeological capital was the main city of the Inca Empire, being proclaimed by the UNESCO cultural heritage of humankind. Cusco is located over the 3350 m.a.s.l. taking the main square as reference point. Today is considered the first touristic center of Peru because of its importance archaeological remains, tourist attractions, Inca walls, typical colourful dresses, churches built on top of Inca palaces, cities lost in the highlands, legendary paths and all the beauty of a glorious past that wraps the visitors that arrive to Cusco, The sacred city of the Incas, this day we’ll visit:
Itinerary:
KORICANCHA, Very important Religious center during the Incas period. Best known as “the Sun Temple” its highlight is the impressive Inca construction engineering used. The Santo Domingo church has been built on top of its walls.
THE CATHEDRAL, Important religious center during the colonial period to these days. Built in the 16th century, baroque styled with a 7 tons silver altar monument, was built on top of the Inca temple Quiswarcancha or Wiracocha palace.
SACSAYHUAMAN, Is a singular structured work of art, attributed to the last dynasties of the Incas, and is located next to the San Cristóbal temple or Qolcampata on the crest of the hill close to the city.
QENQO, Ceremonial center located at 1 Km. of Sacsayhuaman; and where it can be appreciated a giant monolith surrounded by a singular wall with 19 niches where offerings were left. In the lower part we can observe a burial chamber used to embalming corpses or perhaps to perform sacrifices to their gods.
PUCA PUCARA, This construction of a rustic style conformed by houses, patios and alleys. Was a Tambo or a monitoring post located along the Inca.
TAMBOMACHAY, Ceremonial center to worship water, located 8 Kms. From Cusco city, was a resting place for the Inca and the nobility especially in the days when the “Chacu” was performed, this consisted in surrounding a wide area to capture animals specially for pruning Andean camels. It has three platforms with several niches and water channels.
We’ll return to Cusco at around 6:30pm. And transfer to your hotel.
